The Tauern Gas Pipeline (TGL) project enables the continuous transport of natural gas from Upper Austria with its numerous natural gas storage facilities, across the provinces of Salzburg and Carinthia to the Austrian-Italian border close to Tarvisio.
The Tauern Gas Pipeline project (TGL) was designed to be part of the trans-European networks (TEN-E) for high-pressure transport of natural gas. It was designed to be a key component in the future European natural gas pipeline network, connecting Austria and the central European pipeline system with the Mediterranean region and the natural gas markets in Italy and South-East Europe. The TGL would play a key role in providing the transmission capacity needed for meeting the growing natural gas demand and ensuring secure long-term natural gas supplies for Austria and Europe as a whole. The inclusion of the TGL in the trans-European networks (TEN-E) by the EU Commission underscores the pan-European dimension of the project.
