Railway tunnel connection between Helsinki/Finland and Tallinn/Estonia, underpassing the Gulf of Finland
Railway tunnel project, connecting the airport areas of Helsinki and Tallinn, with additional underground stations in both urban areas as well as at artificial islands, to be constructed for urban development projects.
Tunnel construction will be done via access tunnels and shafts, partly constructed on artificial islands for construction access. Tunnel excavation will be performed by TBM and drill & blast methods. The deepest point of the alignment will be approximately 250 m below sea level.
Ground conditions along tunnel alignments dominated in the northern and central section by rocks of the crystalline basement, in the south by Palaeozoic sedimentary rocks.
Design of an extensive investigation program, consisting of various direct and indirect (= geophysical) investigation methods for on- as well as off-shore sections of the alignment alternatives.
Location: Helsinki / Finland, Gulf of Finland and Tallinn / Estonia
